Celebrating the life of

James C. Lynes III

May 31, 1949 - September 28, 2013

James C. Lynes III

James C. Lynes III, 64, died September 28, 2013, while under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice after an extended illness. He was born May 31, 1949 in Marietta, GA, and lived in Savannah since 1958. Jim was a graduate of H.V. Jenkins High School, class of 1968. He attended Southern Tech in Atlanta, GA before entering the United States Air Force, where he served for four years as a C-130 Flight Engineer during the Vietnam War.

After returning from overseas, Jim married the love of his life, Janice "Jodee" Rowe and settled in Savannah. He spent most of his career in multiple roles with Gulfstream Aerospace. Through his 30 years of service with Gulfstream he had the distinguished opportunity to travel the world in the aircraft demonstration support role, as well as maintenance Support Liaison to such distinct customers as the Swedish Air Force, among many others.

A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a Freemason, Jim enjoyed his time with family. He valued the little occasions to just sit and watch the family he'd help create. With a fondness for being outdoors, he enjoyed trolling the Bull River for trout only second to building a good fire in his fireplace, while watching post season Braves baseball on any given, balmy, Savannah fall afternoon.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Herren Lynes, and two sisters, Mary Linda Bucher, and Patricia Gayle Lynes. He is survived by his father, James C. Lynes Sr. 92, his wife of 42 years, Janice Rowe Lynes, his two sons, James C. Lynes IV, and Joseph Keith Lynes. Jim is also survived by the blessing of 6 grandchildren, Hayden, Kendall, Harrison, Grady, Corbin, and Hudson Lynes, as well as two lovely daughters-in-law, Allison and Christy Lynes.

The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude for the staff of Spanish Oaks Hospice, as well as the nurses and CNA's at Tara.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed immediately by a Memorial Service at the Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

The family suggests that remembrances be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011, or Spanish Oaks Hospice, 8510 Whitfield Ave., Savannah, GA 31406.
